This group is dedicated to Jesus and the blood He shed for all mankind. This design was developed in honor of His sacrifice to all mankind. "Sangre de Cristo" is Spanish meaning the "Blood of Christ". The medallion carving details in the pieces of this group represent the Cross that Jesus died upon - and the rays that extend out from the cross represent the "light" if you will that emanates from His divine holiness. In the center of the headboard is a carving of the Dogwood branch. There is an old legend that the cross that Jesus was crucified upon was made from the wood of a Dogwood tree. According to the legend - the Dogwood was so distressed upon having the Savior nailed upon it, that the Lord above made a covenant with it - that never again would the Dogwood tree grow large enough that a cross could be made large enough for a man to be crucified upon it. As a sign of that covenant between the Lord and the Dogwood tree, the flowers of the Dogwood tree would forevermore be tinged pink (or red) by the Blood of Christ.
